Roger is a PhD student at the University of Queensland in the School of Psychology. In their present work, they investigate the way external and situational factors influence emotional empathy. Most research investigating empathy have focused on empathy as a stable factor based on the individual capacity for empathy. But since empathy is a two-person process involving an observer and a target, factors outside the person watching the emotions of others also must be taken into consideration. Roger’s research investigates a range of external or situational factors that modulate the empathic response, revealing that empathy is a dynamic process, and the role of brain regions involved with social-cognitive processing in influencing emotional empathy.
