MEMO Research Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2023

Thank you for choosing to download the mobile application MEMO Research (“our app”). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. If you have any questions or concerns about this privacy notice, or our practices with regards to your personal information, please contact us at qldmindproject@uq.edu.au.

When using our app, we appreciate that you are trusting us with your personal information. We take your privacy very seriously. In this privacy notice, we seek to explain to you in the clearest way possible what information we collect, as well as how we handle, retain, and delete data collected.

Specifically, we’ll cover:

1. Information We Collect

Information we collect falls into one of two categories: “voluntarily provided” and “automatically collected” information.

Voluntarily provided information: any user-generated content or information knowingly and actively provide to us by you when using our app. For our app this relates to your deidentified participant ID, quiz answers, and any photos directly uploaded into the app.

Automatically collected information: service-related, diagnostic usage and performance information automatically collected when you access our app. This log data includes your IP address, device information, information about your activity (such as the date/time stamps associated with your usage), and error reports.

2. How We Use Information

Our app is used for research purposes only. All information collected is deidentified, meaning that it will not be possible for your data to be linked to you personally. Additionally, information will only be published at the group level, such that none of your individual-data will be published. Automatically collected information may also be used to improve the app (i.e., to troubleshoot and protect against errors).

3. How Information is Stored and Shared

Data collected within our app is encrypted in transit (data is transferred over a secure connection). Only members of the specific research team will have access to the data collected, which is stored within Google’s Firebase and password protected. Storage is in accordance with the University of Queensland’s Research Data Management Policy and the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (2007).

You have a right to request that we delete the information collected within the app at any time. Specifically, if you decide to take part in a study that uses our app and later change your mind during or after the study, any data collected from you will be deleted.

4. Our Policies for Children

When we intend to collect personal information from children, we take additional steps to protect children’s privacy. Specifically, in accordance with applicable law, and our practices, we notify parents/legal guardians about our information practices regarding children (i.e., the types of personal information collected, information storage, sharing, and deletion), prior to obtaining consent from them that their child may download and engage with our app.
