href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/pmc5802247\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Expressing<\/a> breast milk, that is removing breast milk by hand or by pump to feed an infant, is very <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1542\/peds.2008-1315h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">common<\/a> in high-income countries.\u00a0 In the two weeks after giving birth to their baby, <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1016\/j.midw.2015.10.009\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">62%<\/a> of Australian mums had expressed at least some breast milk.\u00a0 Many Australian mums prefer to use an electric breast pump after their milk has come in, and <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1177\/0890334410371209\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">common reasons<\/a> they express are so they can go out and leave their baby with family or carers, to store extra milk, to manage their over or under supply, or because their baby has trouble breastfeeding.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-9607027 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"9607027\" data-element_type=\"section\" It can take too much <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/pmc4363194\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">time<\/a>, and it may be painful or unpleasant.\u00a0 Mums may <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/0890334418784562\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lack confidence<\/a> or practical information about expressing, or they may lack support from their close networks.\u00a0 Mums who have premature babies in hospital and those with low milk supply may find it especially hard to express breast milk, and to stay motivated enough to continue. When faced with these challenges, mums do not always know where to turn for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/pmc6860131\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advice<\/a>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-afb7e9a elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"afb7e9a\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-962038a\" data-id=\"962038a\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0449086 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0449086\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Online and social media <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/0890334419883203\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sources<\/a> are common avenues for help, yet these sources do not always include the views of mums who are skilled at expressing breast milk. With this in mind, we asked 45 mums who donate to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifeblood.com.au\/milk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">non-profit milk bank<\/a> about their preferences and experiences and if they had any tips that could help other mums who are finding it hard to express breast milk.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-3860368 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"3860368\" data-element_type=\"section\" or under supply, as well as to help with latch problems, or to allow someone else to feed their baby while they were away.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section consultants and educational resources on the internet. They also thought these three information sources were the most helpful. personalised advice from experts, or they were easy to access and had a greater variety of information.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section
